RACE MEETS

In local short track clubs such as CSSC, there are two (2) types of short track skaters.  Recreational skaters are those people who skate for the love of being on the ice, who  enjoy the challenge of learning the skill and technique involved and who are invigorated  by the speed.  Competitive skaters skate for all the reasons listed above and in addition  love the thrill of competition.  They choose to compete in short track races for regional,  provincial, national and world class championship recognition.  There are two (2) types of meets where skaters have the opportunity to skate multiple  distances at each meet:  I) Age Class - athletes compete with skaters of a similar age; and  ii) Ability - athletes compete with skaters with similar skate times  Many clubs host an annual meet at their home arena.  All CSSC skaters are  encouraged to participate in as many meets as possible.  These are fun events where  members get to meet and socialize with athletes from across the province and from  further away, as well as test their skills in front of an audience of well-wishers and fans.  The goal of each skater is to skate their “personal best”.  The adrenalin and excitement  of skating with athletes from other clubs enhances the skating experience, and  encourages skaters to skate their absolute best
